The Modern Flames Orion V2 Multi is the linear virtual electric fireplace built for feature walls: 52 to 120 inches wide, 18 inches of flame, and a firebox deep enough for a full lit log set. It installs as a single-sided built-in, a left or right corner with one side open, a three-sided bay that shows the fire from three rooms, or it hangs on the wall with an optional Studio Suite mantel. The flames run with or without heat; the heater is a quiet ceramic unit with a thermostat, 5,000 BTU on 120 volts or 10,000 on 240.
- Sizes: 52, 60, 76, 100 and 120 inch.
- Installs: built-in single sided, left corner, right corner, 3-sided bay, or wall mount. Indoor only.
- Power: hardwired by an electrician to a dedicated 20-amp circuit, 120 or 240 volts.
- Heat: 5,000 BTU on 120 volts, up to 400 sq ft; 10,000 BTU on 240 volts, up to 800 sq ft.
- Flames: 24 options out of the box, lit real-wood logs, glowing ember bed, three crackling soundscapes, Bluetooth audio.
- Options: TruWood Premium Timber log set; Studio Suite floating mantel in four finishes for the 52, 60 and 76 inch.
- Warranty: 5 years. Made by Modern Flames, Phoenix, Arizona.
Who it's for
Right buyer. You are building a feature wall and want the deepest, most realistic linear fire made, seen from one, two or three sides, with a full lit log set, speakers and 240-volt heat if you want it. You have a 9-inch-deep cavity or you are framing one, and an electrician on the job.
Wrong buyer. Your wall is a standard 2x6 with no room to build out; that is the Slim. You want to plug it in rather than hardwire it, or the fireplace will only ever be seen from one side and $5,000 is more than the room deserves.
Will it fit?
Frame the rough opening below. Height and depth are the same for every size; the width depends on whether the sides are closed in or open. A single-sided or corner install uses the first width; a three-sided bay, where drywall stops on both ends finish the sides, uses the second. Depth is measured from the finished face of the wall.
| Size | Width, single sided | Width, 3-sided bay | Height | Depth |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 52" | 51" | 50‑5/8" | 24‑3/4" | 9" min |
| 60" | 59‑1/2" | 59‑1/8" | 24‑3/4" | 9" min |
| 76" | 75‑1/4" | 74‑15/16" | 24‑3/4" | 9" min |
| 100" | 99‑1/2" | 99‑1/4" | 24‑3/4" | 9" min |
| 120" | 124" | 123‑1/2" | 24‑3/4" | 9" min |
Run the electrical to the top right of the framed opening. Wall mounting needs no framing at all: the included bracket screws to at least two studs, and the fireplace sits 1-1/2 inches off the wall.
The fireplace itself
| Size | Width | Height | Depth | Viewing area, W x H |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 52" | 51‑1/2" | 24‑5/16" | 9‑9/16" | 50‑1/8" x 18‑7/16" |
| 60" | 60" | 24‑5/16" | 9‑9/16" | 58‑11/16" x 18‑7/16" |
| 76" | 75‑3/4" | 24‑5/16" | 9‑9/16" | 74‑7/16" x 18‑7/16" |
| 100" | 100" | 24‑5/16" | 9‑9/16" | 98‑3/4" x 18‑7/16" |
| 120" | 124‑3/8" | 24‑5/16" | 9‑9/16" | 123" x 18‑7/16" |
The ember bed is 5-3/16 inches deep, which is what makes room for the full log set.

Heat and power
The Multi is hardwired, not plugged in. On a dedicated 120-volt, 20-amp circuit it gives 5,000 BTU, enough for about 400 square feet. Wired instead to a dedicated 240-volt, 20-amp, two-pole circuit with a neutral (four wires), the same heater gives 10,000 BTU for up to 800 square feet. The wiring goes to a junction box at the top left rear; the electrician removes one label to enable 240 volts. Nothing else changes.

Log set
Standard. The real-wood, internally lit log set that comes with every V2 Multi.
TruWood Premium Timber. Modern Flames' upgrade log set: larger pieces of real split wood, hand-charred, that drop in with no tools in place of the standard logs. Matched here to your size.
Studio Suite mantel
For a wall-mount install. A floating cabinet that wraps the fireplace top, bottom and sides so it reads as a finished piece of furniture on the wall. American made, in Coastal Sand, Driftwood Grey, Weathered Walnut, or ready to finish in your own paint. Sizes for the 52, 60 and 76 inch.

Installation
Hardwired only, by an electrician: a dedicated 120-volt, 20-amp circuit, or a dedicated 240-volt, 20-amp, two-pole circuit with a neutral, to the junction box at the top left rear.
- Built-in single sided: frame the rough opening, fasten through the flanges, finish the drywall to the glass.
- Corner or 3-sided bay: leave one or both ends open; the drywall stops and side plates in the box finish the open ends.
- Wall mount: screw the bracket into at least two studs, hang the fireplace 1-1/2 inches off the wall, and add the Studio Suite cabinet if you want it wrapped.
What arrives
- The fireplace with its front glass, real-wood log set, glowing ember media, remote control, wall bracket, drywall stops for the open sides and decorative side plates.
- The TruWood log set and the Studio Suite mantel ship as their own cartons when you add them.
Before you order
- Indoor use only. Not for bathrooms, laundry rooms or anywhere it can get wet.
- It needs its own dedicated 20-amp circuit. Nothing else on the breaker, and never an extension cord or power strip.
- Keep curtains, furniture and bedding at least 3 feet from the front. The heater blows out of the top front.
- It is a supplemental heater for one room, not a home's main heat.
- The front is glass. Large sizes take two people to lift and to remove the glass.
- Built-in installs: frame the opening from the table above, run the electrical to the top right of the framing, and double-check the fireplace against the opening before cutting stone, tile or veneer.
How it performs
In a wide room the Multi is the fireplace people walk up to. The 18-inch flame height and the 5-inch-deep ember bed put real distance between the logs and the back of the box, and on a 76 or 100 inch the fire fills the wall. The lit logs and the downlights mean it reads as a fire from the side as well as the front, which is what makes the corner and bay installs work. On 240 volts the heater is a serious supplemental source, 10,000 BTU into the room from the top vent; on 120 volts it is half that.
Trade-offs to know
- Hardwire only: no plug, so an electrician is part of every install.
- Nine inches of depth means a framed cavity or a wall-mount that stands proud; it does not hide in a standard interior wall.
- At 100 and 120 inches there is no Studio Suite, so a wall mount at those sizes is a custom finish.
Living with it
Bluetooth streaming and the crackle track come through the built-in speakers at a level that suits background listening, not a party. The glass on the large sizes is heavy; plan for two people if it ever has to come off. Firmware and flame downloads arrive through the app, so keep it on the WiFi.
What is new in Orion V2
Modern Flames introduced the Orion in 2022 as the first electric fireplace to draw its flames on an LCD screen instead of projecting them onto a mirror. V2 is the second generation, released in 2026.
- A better screen. Next-generation LCD with deeper blacks and sharper contrast, and adaptive brightness that adjusts the flame to the light in the room.
- 24 flames out of the box. Three flagship multi-dimensional flame styles in six colors each, plus a fourth slot for themes you download in the Modern Flames+ app. The library keeps growing, and the fireplace stores six at a time.
- Real wood logs. The log set is cut from real split wood. On the Traditional and Multi the logs are lit from inside; on every model the ember bed glows and moves under brighter downlights.
- Sound. Custom speakers with three crackling soundscapes, and Bluetooth streaming for music.
- Heat. A PTC ceramic heater with a thermostat, fan-only mode and a lockout so the flames can run without heat.
- Controls. A remote, a touch panel on the fireplace, and the app, which works with smart-home systems.
- 5-year warranty.

Questions people ask
Multi or Slim?
The Multi is 9 inches deep, holds the full lit log set and can be open on one, two or three sides. The Slim is 6 inches deep for a 2x6 wall, single sided, and does not have the lit logs. If the fireplace will be seen from more than one side, or you want the deepest fire, choose the Multi.
Can I see the fire from both rooms?
Yes. In a left or right corner install one end is glass; in a 3-sided bay both ends are glass. The fireplace ships with the drywall stops and side plates for any of these, so you choose on site.
Does it need 240 volts?
No. Every Orion V2 runs on a standard 120-volt circuit and gives 5,000 BTU of heat. The models marked dual voltage can be wired by an electrician for 240 volts instead, which raises the heat output. The flames are the same either way.
Can I run the flames without heat?
Yes. The heater has its own control and a lockout, so the fire runs all summer with no heat. The heater only runs while the flames are on.
Can I mount a TV above it?
The heat leaves through a vent at the top front, so check the TV maker's heat limits and keep the TV clear of the vent path. Many owners mount a TV above an Orion; the safest plan is to keep the vent unobstructed and follow the manual's clearances.
Does it make sound?
Only if you want it to. Three crackling soundscapes with three volume levels, or silence. V2 also streams music over Bluetooth through the same speakers.
How do the app and remote work?
The remote is in the box. The Modern Flames+ app on iOS or Android pairs over WiFi (2.4 GHz) and Bluetooth, adds schedules, a thermostat, custom color mixes and the downloadable flame library, and works with smart-home systems.
Can I return it?
Electric fireplaces are large, glass-fronted and shipped by freight. Please measure the opening from the tables above before you order. Contact us before returning anything so we can arrange it properly.
How far off the wall does it hang?
1-1/2 inches on the included bracket; the Studio Suite cabinet wraps that gap.
Does the bay install need a different fireplace?
No. Every Multi ships with the drywall stops and side plates for single-sided, corner or bay; you choose on site.
