The Modern Flames Orion V2 Slim is the linear virtual electric fireplace made for a standard 2x6 wall: 6 inches deep, 15 inches of flame, from 52 to 100 inches wide. It installs as a built-in clean face, slides into a finished opening with its own trim, or hangs on the wall on the included bracket, and it plugs into a 120-volt outlet. Same V2 screen, flames, speakers and app as the deeper Orion Multi, in a fireplace that fits where a Multi cannot.
- Sizes: 52, 60, 76 and 100 inch.
- Installs: built-in clean face in a 2x6 wall, self-trimming into a finished opening, or wall mount. Indoor only.
- Power: 120 volts, plug included, on a dedicated 20-amp circuit. Hardwire ready.
- Heat: 5,000 BTU, for a room up to about 400 sq ft.
- Flames: 24 options out of the box, real-wood log set, glowing ember bed, three crackling soundscapes, Bluetooth audio.
- Option: TruWood Premium Timber log set.
- Warranty: 5 years. Made by Modern Flames, Phoenix, Arizona.
Who it's for
Right buyer. You want the Orion screen in a normal interior wall: 6 inches deep, a plug, single-sided, and the same 24 flames, adaptive brightness and Bluetooth speakers as the Multi. You are willing to give up the lit logs and the 240-volt heat for that.
Wrong buyer. You want to see the fire from two rooms or a corner, or you want the internally lit log set; both need the Multi. You have a 2x4 wall and will not build it out; the Spectrum fits there and plugs in.
Will it fit?
For a built-in clean-face install, frame the rough opening below in a 2x6 wall and finish the drywall to the included drywall stops. For a self-trimming install, cut the same width and height in a finished wall; the fireplace's trim covers the edge and it needs 6 inches of depth. Depth is measured from the finished face of the wall.
| Size | Width | Height | Depth, built-in | Depth, self-trimming |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 52" | 50‑3/4" | 19‑1/8" | 6‑1/2" | 6" min |
| 60" | 58‑1/2" | 19‑1/8" | 6‑1/2" | 6" min |
| 76" | 75‑1/8" | 19‑1/8" | 6‑1/2" | 6" min |
| 100" | 99‑1/2" | 19‑1/8" | 6‑1/2" | 6" min |
Run the electrical to the top right of the opening. For a wall mount, the bracket screws to at least two studs and no opening is needed.

Heat and power
The Slim is 120 volts only. It arrives with a plug, needs its own dedicated 20-amp circuit, and can be hardwired instead by an electrician for a built-in. The heater gives 5,000 BTU, enough to take the chill off a room of about 400 square feet, with a thermostat, fan-only mode and a lockout so the flames run without heat.

Options
Log set
Standard. The real-wood log set that comes with every V2 Slim.
TruWood Premium Timber. Modern Flames' upgrade log set: larger pieces of real split wood, hand-charred, that drop in with no tools in place of the standard logs. The Slim version, matched to your size.
Installation
Plug-in, or hardwired by an electrician, on a dedicated 120-volt, 20-amp circuit.
- Built-in clean face in a 2x6 wall: frame the rough opening, run the circuit to the top right, fasten the fireplace, finish the drywall to the drywall stops in the box.
- Self-trimming: cut the finished opening in a finished wall, plug in, slide in; the trim covers the edge.
- Wall mount: bracket into at least two studs, no opening needed.
What arrives
- The fireplace with its front glass, real-wood log set, glowing ember media, remote control, wall bracket, trim and drywall stops, with a 120-volt plug fitted.
- The TruWood log set ships as its own carton when you add it.
Before you order
- Indoor use only. Not for bathrooms, laundry rooms or anywhere it can get wet.
- It needs its own dedicated 20-amp circuit. Nothing else on the breaker, and never an extension cord or power strip.
- Keep curtains, furniture and bedding at least 3 feet from the front. The heater blows out of the top front.
- It is a supplemental heater for one room, not a home's main heat.
- The front is glass. Large sizes take two people to lift and to remove the glass.
- Built-in installs: frame the opening from the table above, run the electrical to the top right of the framing, and double-check the fireplace against the opening before cutting stone, tile or veneer.
How it performs
The Slim gives up nothing on the screen: same 24 flames, same adaptive brightness, same speakers as the Multi. What it gives up is depth. With 6 inches of firebox the log set sits close to the back and is not lit from inside, so from straight on the fire looks every bit as good and from a low angle it looks flatter. In a bedroom, an office or a living-room wall where the fireplace is seen head-on, that trade is invisible; in a corner it is not.
Trade-offs to know
- 5,000 BTU only; there is no 240-volt option.
- Single sided only; corners and bays need the Multi.
- A 2x4 wall is not enough; it needs 6-1/2 inches, so a 2x6 wall or a build-out.
Living with it
It plugs in, which makes a self-trimming install a weekend job for a careful owner. Cleaning is a wipe of the glass. The heater runs quiet on low and is fine to sleep next to on a timer; the flames alone use a few watts.
What is new in Orion V2
Modern Flames introduced the Orion in 2022 as the first electric fireplace to draw its flames on an LCD screen instead of projecting them onto a mirror. V2 is the second generation, released in 2026.
- A better screen. Next-generation LCD with deeper blacks and sharper contrast, and adaptive brightness that adjusts the flame to the light in the room.
- 24 flames out of the box. Three flagship multi-dimensional flame styles in six colors each, plus a fourth slot for themes you download in the Modern Flames+ app. The library keeps growing, and the fireplace stores six at a time.
- Real wood logs. The log set is cut from real split wood. The Slim's logs are not lit from inside like the deeper models, but the ember bed glows and moves under brighter downlights.
- Sound. Custom speakers with three crackling soundscapes, and Bluetooth streaming for music.
- Heat. A PTC ceramic heater with a thermostat, fan-only mode and a lockout so the flames can run without heat.
- Controls. A remote, a touch panel on the fireplace, and the app, which works with smart-home systems.
- 5-year warranty.

Questions people ask
Slim or Multi?
The Slim fits a 2x6 wall and plugs in; the Multi needs 9 inches of depth and hardwiring, holds the lit log set, offers 240-volt heat and can be open on two or three sides. In a standard interior wall with one viewing side, the Slim is the one.
Can it go in a 2x4 wall?
Not fully recessed. A 2x4 wall gives about 3-1/2 inches; the Slim needs 6-1/2. Either build the wall out, or wall-mount it on the included bracket.
Does it need 240 volts?
No. Every Orion V2 runs on a standard 120-volt circuit and gives 5,000 BTU of heat. The models marked dual voltage can be wired by an electrician for 240 volts instead, which raises the heat output. The flames are the same either way.
Can I run the flames without heat?
Yes. The heater has its own control and a lockout, so the fire runs all summer with no heat. The heater only runs while the flames are on.
Can I mount a TV above it?
The heat leaves through a vent at the top front, so check the TV maker's heat limits and keep the TV clear of the vent path. Many owners mount a TV above an Orion; the safest plan is to keep the vent unobstructed and follow the manual's clearances.
Does it make sound?
Only if you want it to. Three crackling soundscapes with three volume levels, or silence. V2 also streams music over Bluetooth through the same speakers.
How do the app and remote work?
The remote is in the box. The Modern Flames+ app on iOS or Android pairs over WiFi (2.4 GHz) and Bluetooth, adds schedules, a thermostat, custom color mixes and the downloadable flame library, and works with smart-home systems.
Can I return it?
Electric fireplaces are large, glass-fronted and shipped by freight. Please measure the opening from the tables above before you order. Contact us before returning anything so we can arrange it properly.
Does the Slim have the lit logs?
No. The logs are real wood but not lit from inside; the ember bed and downlights do the glow.
Can it be hardwired?
Yes. It arrives with a plug and is hardwire ready for a built-in.
