Description

The Osburn Inspire 2000 Wood Stove is an EPA 2020 certified wood stove for 500 to 2,100 sq ft. It burns up to 8 hours on a load and takes a 6-inch chimney.

Who it's for

Right buyer. Owners of moderately to well-insulated homes between roughly 1,000 and 1,800 sq ft who want a freestanding wood stove with a contemporary European-style design language — pure lines, balanced proportions, large horizontal glass viewing area — that fits modern interiors without the traditional cast-iron-and-pedestal aesthetic.

The 72% HHV average efficiency and EPA 2020 cordwood compliance place it comfortably within current emissions standards — not a decorative stove dressed as a heater. Owners of small to mid-sized homes, manufactured homes, mobile homes, or alcove installations.

How it performs

The 75,000 BTU/hr maximum is a peak rating, transient, achieved on dry cordwood at loading density of 15–20 lb/ft³ and reload intervals of 60–120 minutes. The figure that matters for daily life is the sustained output across a full burn cycle, which lands in the 14,200–44,500 BTU/hr band per the CSA B415.1-10 stack-loss method.

Good to know

  • One buyer-configurable choice at order — base style with three options. Minimalist (default), Black Steel (upgrade), or Soapstone (premium upgrade).
  • Blower is sold separately.
  • Tight door opening height. 8 3/8" door opening height is on the lower end for a 2.4 ft³ firebox.

Where it can go

The Inspire 2000 is designed for installation in a permitted residential space — a living room, family room, basement, finished workshop, manufactured home, or mobile home with adequate floor support and a 6-inch Class A insulated chimney path to the exterior. Approved for both alcove and mobile-home installations in the US and Canada per the manufacturer listing — uncommon dual approval that opens installation locations many other freestanding wood stoves can't serve.

Clearances to combustibles

Floor protection

A non-combustible floor protector is required under and around the appliance unless the existing floor is already non-combustible. In Canada, the floor protector must extend at least 18 inches in front of the door opening and at least 8 inches on each side of the appliance. In the US, the floor protector must extend at least 16 inches in front of the door opening and at least 8 inches on each side. The manufacturer offers pre-sized options including a 46 3/4" × 54" black steel hearth pad, a 60" corner black steel hearth pad, and 54" × 46 3/4" tempered glass hearth pads in clear or tinted finishes for buyers wanting a coordinated finished look. The Minimalist Base configuration is designed for installation directly on a non-combustible podium — confirm hearth pad sizing matches the base configuration with installer.

Clearances

United States figures, in inches. The rating plate on the appliance overrides any published number; the installer confirms on site.

Clearance Minimum
Back wall, single-wall pipe 11"
Back wall, double-wall pipe 6"
Corner, single-wall pipe 10"
Corner, double-wall pipe 7"
Side wall 16"
Ceiling, from the floor the stove sits on 84"
Floor protection in front 16"
Notes from the manual

SW = single-wall stove pipe (less expensive but requires more clearance). DW = double-wall stove pipe (more expensive but allows closer installation). Choosing double-wall pipe meaningfully reduces back-wall clearance — from 14 1/2" to 6" in Canada, 11" to 6" in the US. The certification label on the unit is the binding clearance for any installation and always overrides clearance figures published in any other media. Confirm the binding clearance figures with your installer before purchase.

Warranty

A one-time replacement limit applies to all parts with lifetime coverage. Warranty is void if the unit is used to burn anything other than seasoned cordwood, or if it is not operated according to the owner's manual. Damage caused by misuse, improper installation, lack of maintenance, overfiring, downdrafts, venting problems, or under-estimated heating area is not covered. Improper installation by anyone other than an authorized qualified technician voids the warranty.

Warranty claims are made through your Osburn dealer and remain subject to SBI/Osburn inspection, approval, and the current written warranty. Kaminos is the retailer for this stove and supports buyers through purchase; final warranty approval rests with SBI as the manufacturer. SBI's parts network is well-stocked — replacement bricks, baffle, secondary tubes, glass, gaskets, blower kit, base components, and venting components are openly available at fair prices through multiple parts vendors.

Osburn may require photos or returned parts to support a claim; repair work covered by warranty requires prior manufacturer approval.

Coverage details can change by component and warranty revision; the current Osburn warranty controls.

Heat

From the specification sheet
Spec Value
Heating area 500 to 2,100 sq ft
Log length 20 in
Spec Value What it means
Combustion technology Non-catalytic Stainless-steel secondary-air tubes reignite smoke gases. No catalyst to replace; simpler operation than a cat appliance but shorter low-and-slow burn times.
Maximum heat output 75,000 BTU/hr Peak output on dry cordwood, transient. Based on loading density of 15–20 lb/ft³ and reloading intervals of 60–120 minutes. Sustained output across a burn cycle is substantially lower.
Heating range 500–2,100 sq ft Manufacturer's stated range. Real-world comfort sizing for primary heat is roughly 1,000–1,800 sq ft in moderate climates and lower in cold climates or older homes — depends on insulation, layout, climate, ceiling height, fuel quality, and installation.
Average efficiency 72% HHV / 77% LHV 79% LHV optimum efficiency at low burn rate; 76% HHV optimum heat-transfer efficiency. Among the higher efficiency figures in the Osburn freestanding wood-stove lineup. HHV is the federal standard.
Particulate emissions Below EPA 2.5 g/hr limit EPA 2020 cordwood certified by an independent accredited laboratory. Tested at well below the 2.5 g/hr particulate limit for cordwood appliances. Specific tested figure varies between published manufacturer materials — confirm the current figure with the dealer or manufacturer if it matters to your jurisdiction's requirements.
Average CO emissions 69 g/hr Average carbon monoxide emissions per CSA B415.1‑10 stack-loss method. In line with the Osburn freestanding wood-stove lineup at comparable output.
Maximum burn time Up to 8 hours Manufacturer maximum from a packed load of dry hardwood with the air shut down hard. Useful heat through a burn cycle is realistically 6–7 hours.
Recommended log length 16 in east-west Per manufacturer spec. Most firewood suppliers cut to this length.
Maximum log length 20 in east-west Longer logs go east-west across the 21-inch firebox width. Loading is over width (east-west), not north-south.
Combustion chamber 21" W x 16 3/4" D x 11 3/4" H Inside firebox dimensions per manufacturer spec. Loading is over width (east-west) per the manufacturer's specification.

Installation

Chimney requirements from the specification sheet

Requirement Value
Flue 6 in
Chimney type CAN/ULC S629, UL 103 HT
Minimum chimney height 12 ft
Alcove installation yes
Mobile home installation yes, with fresh air intake

A 6-inch chimney flue system is required. New factory-built chimney systems must comply with UL 103 HT 2100 °F (USA) or ULC S629 (Canada) and be suitable for solid fuel. The minimum chimney height is 12 feet measured from the stove to the chimney cap outside the house; 15 feet or higher is ideal for optimal draft. The chimney must extend at least 3 feet above the highest point of contact with the roof and at least 2 feet above any roof line or obstacle within 10 feet horizontally.

An 8-inch chimney is not recommended — EPA/CSA B415.1-10 certified heaters function best on a 6-inch chimney. If your existing chimney is 8 inches, install a 6-inch stainless steel liner inside it. Masonry chimneys require a stainless steel liner sized to match the 6-inch flue outlet.

Outside air

A fresh-air intake is required for mobile-home installations and strongly recommended for tight new-construction homes with mechanical ventilation, for homes with powerful range hoods or other mechanical exhaust appliances, and where local code requires it. A 5-inch insulated flex pipe and 5-inch fresh air intake register with airtight damper are sold separately for buyers configuring outside-air installations. A smoke detector and carbon monoxide detector are required in the room where the stove is installed.

Codes and approvals

Code compliance for any specific installation is determined by the local Authority Having Jurisdiction. Manufacturer listings cover what the stove is approved for; the AHJ approves what is permitted at your address. A WETT (Canada), NFI, or CSIA (USA) certified installer is strongly recommended and frequently required by code, permit, or insurance. EPA-certified wood heaters are mandatory in the United States, British Columbia, Ontario, Quebec, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and Newfoundland — confirm local requirements before purchasing, particularly in EPA non-attainment counties and in HOA jurisdictions where new wood-burning installs may be restricted.

California Proposition 65

This product can expose you to chemicals including carbon monoxide, which is known to the State of California to cause cancer, birth defects or other reproductive harm. For more information go to www.P65warnings.ca.gov.

Planning the install

  • Check with your building department and insurer: wood appliances need a permit in most places and an inspection after installation.
  • The chimney is the other half of the system. It is sold separately and quoted from your installer's plan.
  • Clearances and floor protection come from the manual and depend on the pipe and shields you choose. Send us your plan and we will check it.
  • Burn seasoned wood below 20 percent moisture. Wet wood is the cause of most complaints about any wood stove.
  • Special-order goods ship by freight.

Questions
How does it compare with the other Osburn models?
  • Osburn 2000 Wood Stove Closest sibling in the Osburn freestanding wood-stove line — same 2.4 ft³ firebox, same 75,000 BTU/hr maximum cordwood output, same 14,200–44,500 BTU/hr tested band, same EPA 2020 cordwood certification, same 8-hour max burn, same 20-inch log capacity, same 6-inch chimney. Differences: traditional cast-iron door styling and pedestal (vs Inspire's contemporary steel-framed door and three base options); 130 CFM blower included as standard (vs Inspire sold-separately blower kit); slightly smaller glass viewing area; lower starting price than the Inspire 2000. Choose the Osburn 2000 for the traditional aesthetic, included blower, and lower purchase price; choose the Inspire 2000 for the contemporary European styling, larger horizontal glass viewing area, three base options at order (Minimalist / Black Steel / Soapstone), and the NightFlame glass upgrade option.
  • Osburn Matrix Wood Stove Premium contemporary sibling in the Osburn freestanding wood-stove line — same 2.4 ft³ firebox tier, same 75,000 BTU/hr max output, lower particulate emissions than the Inspire 2000, blower included as standard, sleek contemporary styling, higher starting price than the Inspire 2000. Choose the Matrix for the lower emissions, included blower, and Osburn's most contemporary wood-stove design language; choose the Inspire 2000 for the wider horizontal glass viewing area, the soapstone base option, the Modern Stove Bench companion accessory, and lower purchase price. Osburn 1700 Wood Stove Smaller sibling in the Osburn freestanding wood-stove line — 1.9 ft³ firebox, 65,000 BTU/hr maximum cordwood output, 500–1,800 sq ft heating range, traditional styling, significantly lower starting price than the Inspire 2000. Choose the Osburn 1700 for smaller heating needs, lower purchase price, and traditional aesthetic; choose the Inspire 2000 for the larger 2.4 ft³ firebox, higher BTU output, contemporary styling, base configurability, and the wider glass viewing area. Pacific Energy Super 27 Premium cross-brand competitor in the EPA-certified non-catalytic wood-stove category, built by Pacific Energy in British Columbia. 2.2 ft³ firebox, 80,000 BTU/hr max output, 79% efficiency, included Extended Burn Technology (EBT), heavy-gauge floating firebox design, both leg and pedestal configurations available, Mobile Home approved including in the US. Significantly higher purchase price than the Inspire 2000. Choose the Pacific Energy Super 27 for the Pacific Energy floating-firebox build philosophy and the established premium cross-brand reputation; choose the Inspire 2000 for the larger 2.4 ft³ firebox, contemporary European styling, three base options at order, larger horizontal glass viewing area, and lower purchase price.
What chimney does it take?

A 6-inch flue: a listed factory-built chimney rated UL 103 HT in the US or ULC S629 in Canada, or a lined masonry chimney in good repair. The connector pipe and chimney are quoted from your installer's plan.

Does it need a blower?

No. Every Osburn heats by radiation and natural convection. The optional blower moves warm air into the room faster and helps in a larger or open space; it needs a 120-volt outlet.

Can I install it myself?

Many owners do the placement and the pipe with the manual in hand, but the chimney, the permit and the inspection are where an installer earns the fee. Insurance usually requires the inspection.

Can I return it?

Stoves ship by freight. Confirm the model and the options with us before you order, and contact us before returning anything.

What wood should I burn?

Seasoned hardwood, split and dried a year or more, below 20 percent moisture. Wet wood smokes, coats the chimney with creosote and makes a poor fire.
