Clearances
Clearances are to combustible materials, from the appliance. They come from the installation manual for this model and depend on how it is vented; the installer confirms them on site.
| Clearance | Minimum |
|---|---|
| Adjacent wall | 16" |
Notes from the manual
Faceplate to sidewall 16 in. Mantel clearances are from bottom of appliance to lower edge of mantel or trim (figure not transcribed). Owner manual clear space: 48 in. front of fireplace.
Heat and burn
An open wood fireplace is not a rated heater, and Majestic publishes no BTU figure for it: the fire warms what it faces by radiation, and most of the heat from the flue goes outdoors. What decides how much fire you get is the firebox: Pioneer III opens 63-1/4", Pioneer III opens 47-1/4. Seasoned hardwood, a proper chimney draft and doors closed as the fire burns down give the most warmth for the wood. Where a gas log set is approved for the model, its rating is on the log-set page.

Questions people ask
Can I put gas logs in it?
Most Majestic wood fireplaces have gas knockouts and are listed for specific vented gas log sets; the options on this page are the ones Majestic approves for this model. A gas line and installation by a gas fitter are required.
Does it heat the room?
An open wood fireplace is for the look and the radiant warmth in front of it; most of the heat goes up the chimney. Doors help. For heating, look at the WarmMajic-II or a wood insert.
Which chimney pipe does it take?
The pipe system listed in the manual for this model, in the diameter and minimum height it specifies. We quote it from your installer's plan.
Can I return it?
Fireplaces are special-order freight items. Confirm the size, refractory and doors with us before you order, and contact us before returning anything.
What wood should I burn?
Seasoned hardwood, split and dried a year or more, below 20 percent moisture. Wet wood smokes, coats the chimney with creosote and makes a poor fire.
How often does the chimney need sweeping?
Once a year at least, and after every cord or two if you burn nightly. Creosote is the fire risk in any wood fireplace, and a sweep is cheap insurance.
Do I need the doors?
No, but they pay for themselves: closed, they stop room air going up the flue when the fire burns down, and they keep sparks in. Glass doors let you see the fire closed.
Can I add a blower later?
Where the model lists a fan or forced-air kit on this page, yes; it fits into the cabinet without rebuilding. Models without a listed kit are radiant only.
