Description
The Majestic Ruby is a direct-vent gas insert that turns an old wood fireplace into an efficient gas one. It slides into the firebox, vents up the existing chimney, and comes with a log set, glowing embers and IntelliFire Touch ignition, in 25, 30 and 35 inch.
Who it's for
Right buyer. You have a wood-burning fireplace you no longer use and want it to heat the room on gas, from a remote, with a log set and a surround that covers the old opening, in 25, 30 or 35 inch.
Wrong buyer. Your fireplace opening is too small for the 25 or you want a larger viewing area; the Trilliant has the biggest glass. You want the tall-glass premium version; the Ruby Platinum.
How it performs
The Ruby turns a dead wood fireplace into a working gas one in a day: the insert slides into the firebox, two liners run up the old chimney, the surround covers the opening, and the room has a fire that lights from a remote.
Good to know
- The old firebox has to be big enough; the opening table above is the whole decision.
- The chimney must be lined and capped; there is no shortcut.
- The surround is a separate purchase and must be chosen to cover the old opening.

Installation

|---|---|
| Type | Direct vent, co-linear |
| Min vertical | 10 ft |
| Max vertical | 50 ft |
| Termination | vertical only |
| Liner | Two 3 in. flexible liners: LINK-DV30B or LINKSQ-DV30 (two 30 ft liners and cap), or LINK-DV4‑30B (30 ft exhaust, 4 ft intake) |
Restrictor: none to 25 ft, one open 26 to 35 ft, both open 36 to 50 ft.
The insert slides into an existing masonry or factory-built wood fireplace and vents through two flexible liners run up the old chimney to a cap on top. The chimney is inspected first, and the liner kit is sized to its height and sold separately.
Planning the install
- Installation is by a licensed gas installer. The fireplace, its venting and the gas line are inspected together, and the warranty depends on it.
- Framing, clearances to combustibles, mantel heights and the vent run come from the installation manual for your size. Send us your plan and we will check it before anything ships.
- Venting is sold separately and priced from the installer's plan: the pipe, elbows and termination depend on where the vent exits. Ask us for a vent quote with your order.
- Propane: every model is also made in an LP version at the same price. Add a note to your order and we will confirm the LP model before it ships.
- A 120-volt outlet or junction box at the fireplace is needed for the fan, lights and accessories; the ignition itself has battery backup.
- Special-order goods ship by freight. Confirm the size and the front before you order.
Questions
Will it fit my fireplace?
Send us the width, height and depth of your firebox opening, front and back, and the height of the chimney. Each insert size has a minimum opening in the installation manual, and the surround covers the rest. We check every insert order against it before it ships.
What is a front, and why is it required?
A Majestic direct-vent fireplace ships as the firebox and glass. The front is the finished face that covers the frame and the vents: a clean-face trim that disappears into the wall, or a decorative front with a screen. The fireplace cannot be finished without one, which is why the page will not let you order without choosing it.
What is IntelliFire Touch?
Majestic's intermittent-pilot ignition system. There is no standing pilot burning all year; the fireplace lights when you turn it on, from the wall switch, the remote or the app. It has a battery backup, so it still lights in a power outage. Flame height, the fan and the lights are controlled from the RC400 remote or the IntelliFire app with the Wi-Fi module.
Does it heat the room?
Yes. A direct-vent fireplace is a sealed heater: it draws combustion air from outside and sends its exhaust outside, so all the heat from the glass goes into the room. With the optional fan it warms a good-sized room; the passive heat and heat-zone kits move heat to another room or out of the wall above.
How is it vented?
Through a coaxial direct-vent pipe out the top or the rear, to a termination on the roof or through an outside wall. No chimney is needed. The pipe, elbows and cap are sized to your house and sold separately.
Can I get it in propane?
Yes. Add a note to your order and we will confirm the LP model, which is the same price.
